PAGAN

Alpha_Wolf.jpgHot_Jazz_Printed.jpg

Wolves hold a special place in Pagan and Celtic mythology.   For many Pagan followers wolves are considered the highest animal in the spiritual plane.  No animal arouses our curiosity, fear, intrigue and love quite like the wolf.

The ancient Celts/Pagans believed that the wolf ruled over the Winter; the last quarter of the year and often seen as the coldest and dreariest part of the calendar.  However, in Celtic/Pagan belief this quarter of the year, whilst representing death, also brings rebirth.  So to many Celtic/Pagan people this is also a time of joy and hope.

Wolves symbolise strength, intelligence, secrets, shadows and mysteries.  Wolves were also seen as animal messengers and in Celtic/Pagan  mythology was the companion of the goddess of the moon and fertility; Cerridwen.  The wolf is also one of the four sacred animals of the goddess Brighid who is celebrated with the festival of Imbolc.  This festival takes place in the month of February (known to the ancient Celts as Faoilleach) and is the month of the wolf.

ALPHA WOLF

I chose the name Alpha Wolf as this symbolises the leader wolf in the pack.  The man in the painting is an Alpha Male meaning a leader or warrior and on equal plane with the Alpha Wolf.  Both Alpha Male and Alpha Wolf have mutual respect for each other.
